dodgeball movie review
Tuesday, Jun 29 2004 | 0 comments

dodgeball is so the new zoolander. went to see this last night at webster place since matt had the night off work (finally) and didn't want to waste it being depressed by farenheight 9/11. so the obvious choice was dodgeball. i personally didn't like it as much as zoolander, but matt said it was better...probably because it involved physical action and abuse. there are a few choice cameos (chuck norris, william shatner, lance armstrong, hank azaria) that were really really friggin funny.

is ben stiller really that short? or was it just part of the character?

on the scale of "heinous" to "totally bitchin", i give it a "requires a change of pants, just in case"

dell can bite my ass
Thursday, Jun 24 2004 | 1 comments

i was really happy with my dell until about a month ago, when it started going haywire. as of today, i am not sure how much of it i am going to be able to recover. i've gotten some crazy blue screen of death about irql_not_less_or_equal and have tried every support thing online to fix it. i have tried last know good configuration. i have tried safe mode. i have tried repairing the installation. i have tried reinstalling the OS. i have swapped out RAM. nada. i am so pissed that i am on the verge of just getting it like a crazy serial killer, pulling out all components, boards and wires with insane glee.

i hate machines.

hot wheel ramp course

car1.jpg

we were racing remote control hot wheels at work today. which escalated into the construction of an obstacle course. which then led to the construction of a jump ramp. and then we modified erika's webcam to become "rampcam". more pictures follow....

money for nothing
Tuesday, Jun 22 2004 | 0 comments

i got a check in the mail from school yesterday for $322.00 and about peed my pants. apparently, there is a tuition incentive program to get kids to pay on time. get your tuition in by the first week of school, you get a 5% credit on your next semester. since i have no next semester, they just cut me a check.

guess who's going to ikea tonight and spending every last penny of it?

how do people have kids?
Monday, Jun 21 2004 | 0 comments

I just got over a long weekend of watching my little brother and sister while my parents are in Japan, and I am in massive awe of the amount of patience my parents must have. Even worse, Jordan and Katelyn are at an age where they don't require much maintenance (15 & 10, respectively). Nonetheless, getting up to go to swim meets and making sure that they were happy, fed, and occupied all weekend sucked all remaining life out of me.

I guess it was fitting for Father's Day weekend. Made me respect my dad a whole lot.

i dream about airports
Thursday, Jun 17 2004 | 2 comments

I had a really weird dream last night which involved an airport, paris, and a very cranky security guard. In it, I was about to leave for Paris (which I think is because I was watching the Seinfeld with the raincoats and Mr. & Mrs. Seinfeld's trip to Paris). I was stopped at security by a guard who needed to verify my identity. This involved asking me series of questions which I answered. In the end, I guess I didn't do so well, because they told me that is not how Lauren Liss would have answered. And I was not allowed to board the plane.

I then took the Disneyland monorail home.

i  gmail
Wednesday, Jun 16 2004 | 0 comments

i have been salivating over gmail ever since i got first wind of this awesome service. like many around me, i have been selling my soul to anyone who has any invitations to offer. however, i have been unwilling to stoop to -PURCHASING- a free service from eBay or craigslist or the like. luckily, my faith in humanity was restored today by a kindly poster on craigslist offering invitations in exchange for what you can come up with. in the end, i walked away with an invitation by offering bruch reservations at the Ritz, and to burn copies of 3 Radiohead CDs.

I am so glad to know that there are people out there that are willing to do nice things in return for nice things.

the weirdest thing on my way to work this morning.... a guy driving down lincoln, near balmoral, in a big ass green john deere tractor.

something tells me he's on the road to nowhere or his other car is a corolla with a flat.

Saved! movie review
Sunday, Jun 13 2004 | 0 comments
saved.jpg

how do you move from being the dennis the menace of the 90's to being a credible actor past your teen years? you put yourself in a wheelchair. as much as i wanted to dislike macauly culkin, he was effing AWESOME in this movie. his character really tied the whole room together.

i liked the fact that this movie, while snotty and sarcastic, really pulled off a decent message without getting too bogged down in sap. it took a lot of good jabs at organized religion and came out with the upper hand. face it, jesus freaks are crazy. they scare the bejeezus out of me. it's behavior far too cult-like for my tastes. but hey, i don't cast the first stone. or the second one. i am usually down around by the 10th stone.

it's worth a view. there are a couple of great lines, even better than the prize winners from the trailer. but go to a matinee. it's not worth $9.

on the scale of "heinous" to "totally bitchin", i give it a "pretty goddamn rad, at the risk of spending eternity in hell"

mr. tripindicular got promoted to the dining room at the Ritz-Carlton yesterday, which is an enormously huge deal given that it is one of only four establishments in Chicago with a five star rating (others - Charlie Trotters, The Four Seasons, The Peninsula). He'll be doing all the fish dishes. I wish I knew more, but he woke me up and told me at about 1:30 this morning. either way, it rocks big time.

Troy - Movie Review
Monday, Jun 7 2004 | 1 comments
troy.jpg

i am not the world's hugest brad pitt fan. yes, i realize that he is very attractive. and i think he picks awesome roles to play. but i have plenty of boyfriend cards, and he isn't one of them. he's too obvious.

HOWEVER

troy is a totally new ballgame. he is a totally buff, hot piece of ass that does nothing but look good. and he does it VERY VERY WELL. almost all of his spoken parts are trite manure but, man, does he polish the turd. his very nude scenes and the brief moments of "greek skirt being brushed up in battle revealing a generous portion of upper thigh" are well worth a movie ticket.

other than that, i have warned brianne not see this. she is convinced that she is going to marry orlando bloom, but she will change her tune after this. he is a TOTAL WEINIE!!! Surely because of this, Patrcik will insist that they go out and see it right away.

on the scale of "heinous" to "totally bitchin", i decide it requires a new scale. i give it a "totally hot and sexy, buy as soon as it is released on DVD and have a hot date with your TV"

from cp & andy:

"CREED CALL IT QUITS

Multi-platinum Florida rockers CREED have decided to break up after nine years together. Three members, including guitarist MARK TREMONTI, have formed ALTER BRIDGE with MAYFIELD FOUR singer-songwriter MYLES KENNEDY, and will release "One Day Remains" in August. Frontman SCOTT STAPP has recorded a solo track for an August compilation inspired by the film "The Passion of the Christ," and he plans to make his solo debut with Canadian band the TEA PARTY.

Reported from Rolling Stone. This turning out to be a great day.

Andy"

btw, I also heard on Mancow this morning that Stapp is a real tub-a-lub too. A bad day for Creed is an absolutely AWESONE day for humanity.

mr. tripindicular is SO damn jealous
Monday, Jun 7 2004 | 0 comments

One of Matt's favoritest Chicago chefs, Grant Achatz, is getting his own digs. This is so not fair. This guy is only 30, has worked under Thomas Keller, has been an executive chef (which he became at 27!!!), and has won a James Beard award [info via Chicagoist].

I think Matt is going to want to marry him. He lurves him and wants to have 50 million of his babies. Which means I have to start cooking my own food. damn.

I've had some difficult times lately. A lot of anger has been swallowed. I feel like being mean to someone. I will give you $20 and buy you a beverage and pastry. All you have to do is meet me at a coffee shop on the northside, sit down, and tell me about yourself, your job, whatever you want. After about a half hour I will verbally tear you a new one. Tell you exactly what is wrong with you, your life, why you haven't gotten anywhere. Say horrible things about your dreams, hobbies and pursuits. Tell you your boyfriend or girlfriend is ugly and that's what you deserve. You will hate me and hopefully feel horrible about yourself, but you will earn $20. You just have to be able to take what I dish out without responding. If you cry I'll add another $5. Seriously inquiries only. Yes, I'm already in therapy, but thanks for asking.

patrick's new band, stella, played their first show tonight and they rocked like total stars. they played at the mutiny, which may have the most heinous website i have ever seen in my whole life.

robyn was on hand and took a buttload of pictures. i'll be doing their website, so you can look for all the good stuff there soon. somehow i don't think stella.com is available, so i think they should go for iheartstella.com, or stellafuckingrocks.com. place your bets.

Ferrys are the new Cars
Tuesday, Jun 1 2004 | 0 comments

brianne and i have been saying for years that they should have ferrys across lake michigan. actually, we just said it the other day. and then patrick said it should be a pedestrian bridge. or maybe just bikes. and then we all had a big fight.

regardless, someone must have been listening (via chicagoist)
