Wilco sticks it to the man. Again. Without even trying. Wilco fans have again upset the expectations of record label execs who like to believe that everyone who download music is a tight ass, snot nosed teenager with no sense of moral virtue. from rollingstone.com:
"the just-launched justafan.org, a site set up specifically for fans who download copies of the new Wilco album and want to show their appreciation by making a donation to the band-selected charity Doctors Without Borders/Medecins Sans Frontieres. In less than a day online, with nothing more than word-of-mouth publicity, donations exceeded $1,500."

bean and i decided to be adventurous last night (read: she wanted to go meet a friend and i really wanted to stay home and do a crapload of stuff but caved in the end), and went to go meet her friend illissa at a bar. all the warning signs were there
1. it was on lincoln near fullerton
2. it was a thursday night
3. it had dollar bottles
4. and a cover charge
all this is bad enough, but we drove around for 30 mins just trying to find a parking spot, finally found one, were pissed about the cover charge and walked in just to feel like we were at a meat market. i hate the feeling of going into a bar where 75% of the clientele is hard up and gives you a prolonged look over like they are debating whether they should have the bratwurst or the buffalo wings.
needless to say, we got the hell out of dodge after 3/4 of a nasty ass Miller lite, walked to McDonald's and ate a 4 hour old apple pie.
there are plenty of times that i will be adventurous and try new things, but strange bars are not one of them. there should be an intense screening process: collecting demographics, foot traffic, cost effectiveness.
