jelly bracelets a crock of shit (duh)
Sunday, Dec 14 2003 | 27 comments

from snopes.com, your leading source for urban legend

"Nothing in the various "sex bracelet" news stories we've pawed through indicates girls are actually using these fashion items to declare willingness to engage in various acts, or that boys are breaking the bracelets off of girls in the belief that so doing grants them a right to claim what they think has been advertised. Rather, the bannings are an attempt to unring a bell — to return children to a time when they weren't so focused on sex."

another article in the Chicago Tribune points out the blatant heresy in the whole sex bracelets steaming pile of crap.

"However, recent attempts to find even one teen in the Chicago area who could verify the trend turned up only hoots of derision and more than a few "yucks." And if you check out the reliable Urban Legends Reference Pages (www.snopes.com), the consensus is that the fad is an inside joke ... on adults.

Dr. Cynthia Mears, head of adolescent medicine at Children's Memorial Hospital, sees these bracelets on the arms of many of her young patients, and says the young people do call them "sex bracelets."

Yet when she asks them if that's really what happens, "they giggle and say, `Of course not.' They'd never do that! But some in the media must assume kids are that stupid," she said. "A bracelet is not going to make a child have sex. Sometimes kids do dumb things to keep up their image, but most kids would not think of wearing sex on their sleeves, you know?"

so, for all you nervous wreck parents who have been flooding this site with search requests for more information on these dirty dirty little plastic rings, i hope this will help you sleep better at night. susie will not sleep with bobby just because he pulled off her bracelet in "snaps". she is not the blow job queen of her elementary school because her arm is filled with blue bracelets. blue just happens to be her favorite color. remember? her room is blue? her comforter? her coat? her nails? her favorite doll's dress? yeah.

Hello
My name is Domonique and I just found out that they are banning the sex bracelets -aka-jelly bracelets. I don't know why they are banning the bracelets because most of the people mothers know what they mean I know mine's do.When you where the bracelets and somebody pop it the teachers think that you have to do something .Just because some people wear them meaning that they are sex bracelets that don't mean that we can't wear them for decorations .

As usual, I should have chalked this one up as a blunder by the media to make all moms & dads, nationwide panic & snap out on their kids. I have 3 daughters, ranging in age from 6 to 12. I asked my oldest if she knew the deal with these jelly bracelets & she looked at me as if I had 3 heads. I'd just like to say that if the media would let kids be kids, maybe we wouldn't force them to grow up so freakin fast. Don't worry all you moms & dads out there, they are full of it once again!

I think that the meanings of the jelly bracelts are just so dumb. i wear them almost all the time and i don't do any of the things that they say i would do if I wore them which i don't. I belive they shoulnd't ban them from school or any other place they are just braceletz. What's next are they going to ban earrings because it's a peircing? Come on I think they are just being to worried overe smething small and they should worry over something worth worring about.

...and green m&m's are known to make you ...(fill in the blank) While to some this may seem ridiculous, I think the thing here to remember, is that young people once again know more than we do. Aren't they clever? Whatever your opinion on these bracelets, fashion or forward, the bottom line, as always, stay in tune with what our young ones are doing or at the very least, their interests.

I don't like these meanings my kids know the meanings and as christians I can't let them wear them for just the fact of their reputation and others reputation will be on the line wether they actually practice the meaning or not it is wrong and the thought is still there and making an impression

i have 3 kids who wear these bracelets. i also wear them. because when i was younger in the '80's they were friendship bracelets. so what happened to friendship? my daughter came home from school and the school just banned these little bracelets. the meaning is whatever you think they may mean.

Oh My God, these so called "sex bracelets" are harmless. No girl would really do it do a guy basically, most girls wear them because they think it's cool. I mean lighten up, it people ban them, then they are just going to be warn more. Just like saying u can't see your boyfriend anymore. THEY ARE HARMLESS

I am a 17 year old student while my school hasn't yet banded these brecelets i'm sure it will come down to it. Wearing these bracelets to most mean absoutly nothing just a trend that will eventually go away. The important thing to remember is that some kids wear them for fashion while it may be true that others are wearing them for "snaps". Sure people have broken my bracelets before and I think about what I would have had to have done and thought how disquesting. If these bracelets do anything to young adults its teaching them to respect there selves if they do beleive in the color meaning and don't preform that action then chalk it up to that kid being very smart. Besides that if parents get to into the business of young adults they will start practing the meaning for the simple fact that everyone is meddeling around in the topic. They'll do it just to prove everyones beleifes right.

I'm 17 and in highschool and I have friends who wear these things just because of what they mean. I wear them as well, but only the colors I like; red & black. I know what they mean and I yhink it's funny. The parents of kids at my school aren't aware of it, but people actually play this game and I have as well. It isn't known by very many people, but those who do know play the game with people they like or are going out with. =^.^=

I don't know why everyone's soo worked up about these sex bracelets. I mean, I wear them(and I think mines aren't even sex bracelets!) and I no boy even comes up to me and pops one. And if he did, i wouldn't suck his dick or do a lap dance for him anyways(even if he WAS fine). Shoot,I'll give him the REJECTED number!

I have near a hundred of these bracelets, and I've already heard what they mean, but alot of girls wear tem just because they come in cool colors and are cheap. I have had people break mine but thats bs saying to band them cause of they're meanings. if people do play the "snaps" game, its very few people. I know alot of people who wear them, only cause they're fun to trade and collect.I think the teachers are to d@m parranoid for their own good. They need to get over it.Parents too. These bracelets are awsome!
